Lisceth Brazil-Cruz holds a doctoral degree in School
Organization and Educational Policy from the University of
California, Davis. Her research interests include educational and
pipeline issues affecting disenfranchised, underserved and
vulnerable student populations as well as issues of equity among
communities of color. Her dissertation focused on understanding
parental practices of Latino first generation college students as

Karen is associate director of news and media relations,
supervising public relations for the College of Letters and
Science (divisions of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies, and
Social Sciences), Student Affairs and Admissions, and the schools
of law and education as well as the Graduate School of

Dr. Ivonne Santiago is a Clinical Professor of the Civil
Engineering Department and a member of the Center for Inland
Desalination Systems (CIDS) at University of Texas at El
Paso. Dr. Santiago has a combined experience of over 20
years in the areas of water quality, water treatment and
wastewater treatment in Puerto Rico (PR), New Mexico and
Texas. She has worked as Director of the Water Quality Area
of the PR Environmental Quality Board) as consultant, performing
technical and compliance audits of water and waste treatment
plants in PR); as an environmentally engaged citizen (on the
EPA’s National Advisory Committee and the EPA’s Good Neighbor
Environmental Board for the President and Congress of the US). To

Jennifer Sinclair Curtis is Dean of the College of Engineering at
the University of California, Davis. In her role as the Associate
Dean for Research at the University of Florida, she supported
faculty and researchers in developing and maintaining research
programs, including promoting interdisciplinary research, working
with research sponsors and funding agencies, coordinating the
college’s research institutes and ensuring regulatory compliance.
She also served as Director of the Florida Energy Systems
Consortium, which promotes collaboration between Florida’s public
universities to conduct research, education and commercialization
in energy technology and as the Chair of Chemical Engineering.
Before joining the College of Engineering at the University of
Florida, she served as the Head of the Department of Freshman
Engineering and Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education at

Patterson Assistant Professor of Elementary Science Education. Dr.
Patterson studies the challenges facing those in the field of
science education to reframe science learning in terms of
diversity and access.
