Join the Discussion: Women & Leadership
UC Davis Student Community Center, Multipurpose Room

A group discussion of leadership development among women in STEM using Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead as a starting point.

Sheryl Sandberg, COO of Facebook, has rekindled the international debate about the underrepresentation of women in government and business leadership positions, the causes of that persistent trend, and what can be done to change it.  She has voiced her perspective broadly using such platforms as a TED Talk, the 2013 World Economic Forum, and her book, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead (Knopf, 2013), and associated website, http://leanin.org/.

Although she has spoken about the pervasive influence of gender stereotypes in business, Ms. Sandberg has been criticized for suggesting that women, not the male-dominated corporate system, hold themselves back with a lack of confidence, ambition and reticence to raise their hands for new assignments – to “lean in.”

Lunch will be served.
