UC Davis Faculty Work Life Program
Office of the Vice Provost - Academic Affairs

UC Davis recognizes the necessity of supporting faculty in honoring their often-competing commitments to both family and career. To recruit and retain the best faculty, the campus established a Work Life program and has a national reputation for supporting work-life balance among faculty.

Campus programs and policies that support Leave, Active Service Modified Duties (ASMD), Tenure Clock, Post-Tenure Deferrals, and Part-Time service request are covered on this Academic Affairs website.

A summary of programs entitled “Work Life at UC Davis: Integrating Self, Work, Life’s Important Others and Community” by Barbara Ashby, Manager of Work Life, UC Davis Human Resources, is available.

Faculty Advisors for Work Life

As part of the award from the Sloan Foundation, the campus established the Faculty Advisors for Work Life program. This program helps publicize and inform the faculty about the programs, policies, and resources associated with work life. The group of advisors who participate in this program represent various academic units (colleges, schools, divisions) on the campus.  These advisors also help with the continuing evolution of this program by working with the Vice Provost – Academic Affairs to recognize and address emerging issues related to work-life balance.
