UC Davis ADVANCE CAMPOS Cafecito Community Gatherings
Davis, CA
The UC Davis ADVANCE Center for the Advancement of Multicultural Perspectives on Science (CAMPOS) Initiative hosted two Cafecitos (coffee breaks) on February 26 and April 22, 2015. Participants took a break from the work day to engage in lively discussions on the recent Washington Post article, “Black and Latina Women Scientists Sometimes Mistaken for Janitors,” by Brigid Schulte, as well as the presentation “STEM FEMINISM: Planning the UCD Feminist Research Institute” by Suad Joseph, Amina Mama, Xiaoling Shu, Mary Lou de Leon Siantz, and Laura Grindstaff.
“I enjoy the “Cafecitos” because in my opinion, “meet-and-greet” activities are part of career development and mentoring experience that we all need. It is also an opportunity to get in touch with CAMPOS and ADVANCE leadership and staff. It is also very refreshing to experience, first hand, their dedication and support.” Lillian Cruz-Orgengo, Assistant Professor of Anatomy, Physiology and Cell Biology
