ADVANCE Presents at the ADVANCE GSE Workshop May 31-June 2, 2015

ADVANCE gave a panel presentation and poster presentation at the ADVANCE Gender in Science and Engineering (GSE) Workshop in Baltimore, MD, from May 31-June 2, 2015.
The panel presentation, “Intersectionality at the Programmatic Level,” addressed intersctional identities of under-represented faculty in particular institutional contexts. One presentation concerned a faculty survey about workplace climate in a “gendered organization” and two presentations (including ADVANCE’s) concerned qualitative analyses of underrepresented faculty in particular contexts (i.e., Latina STEM Scholars & underrepresented science faculty at a primarily undergraduate institution), this session addressed the impact of organizational culture and institutional context in creating, identifying, and solving inequity issues in career development.
The poster presentation, “Against All Odds: Career Paths of Latina Fellowship Scholars,” addressed a number of barriers that have prevented women-especially women of color- from advancing in STEM careers in academia, and strategies for removing them.
