Attracting STEM scholars to the academy
A survey of career path perceptions among STEM doctorates

Attracting STEM scholars to the academy: A survey of career path perceptions among STEM doctorates uses an online survey fielded to doctoral students to systematically investigate their perspectives on (1) barriers to entry into and advancement within STEM faculty positions, (2) ways to remove barriers and facilitate entry into and success in STEM faculty positions, and (3) characteristics of ideal work environment.

We partner with national organizations that promote the involvement of Latinos/as in STEM, such as the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS), the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE), and the Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) to ensure a sufficient sample of Latino/as in STEM fields. The information gathered in this study directly informs our effort to build a diverse research community through targeted recruitments and the establishment of CAMPOS – the Center for the Advancement of Multicultural Perspectives on Science.
